Chakloon Chat
The Chakloon messenger for adults: private chats, groups and channels, calls, polls and shared media, how to keep yourself safe, and how to delete your account.
What it is
Chakloon Chat is the messenger of the Chakloon package. It works in the browser at chat.chakloon.com and as an Android app. In Chakloon Chat you can:
- write private chats with one person;
- create groups and channels (in a channel only its owner posts, the others read);
- send photos, files, voice and video messages;
- reply to a message, react to it, edit or delete your own messages.
Chakloon Chat keeps conversations in the cloud, so you can read them on any device where you are signed in. Chats are not end-to-end encrypted: messages are stored on our servers in the EU.
Who can use it
Chakloon Chat is only for adults: you must be 18 or older. Your date of birth is checked when you start using the chat, and accounts of people under 18 are closed. See Minimum age.
To start, open chat.chakloon.com or the app and sign in with your Chakloon Passport (see Chakloon Passport).
Main actions
- New chat: press New chat, find the person by name or handle and write the first message.
- Group: choose New group, give it a name and pick the participants.
- Channel: choose New channel and give it a name; your posts reach everyone in it.
- Reply, react, edit or delete: open the menu of a message and choose the action. You can edit and delete only your own messages.
- Files and voice: use the attach button to send photos and files, and the microphone button to record a voice message.
To get notifications on your phone, allow them in the app. Push notifications are delivered through Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which receives the sender's name, the text of the notification and the conversation identifier.
Calls, polls and shared media
These features work in the web version at chat.chakloon.com.
Calls
- Call one person: open the conversation and press Call for a voice call or Video call for a video call at the top. The other person sees Incoming call and can Answer or Decline.
- Call a group or a channel: open the conversation of the group or channel and press Start a call. Everyone else in the conversation sees A call is on and can press Join.
- During a call: you can switch off your microphone and, on a computer, share your screen. Press Hang up to leave.
You can call a person only after they have accepted your message request. In a group or a channel, a call can be started by those who can write there. If you have no microphone or camera, or do not allow them, you join the call as a listener. A call nobody answers shows up as a missed call in the Chakloon bell, and the start of a group call is announced in the bell and by a push notification.
Polls
- In a group or a channel, press the attach button and choose Poll.
- Write the question and from two to ten options.
- Choose whether the poll is anonymous, which is the default, or public, and whether people may choose several answers.
- Press Create poll.
You can change your mind with Retract vote. In a public poll everyone can see Who voted; in an anonymous poll nobody can. The author of the poll or an admin can press Stop poll: after that nobody can vote and everyone sees the final results. The author is told about new votes, and everyone who voted gets the results in the Chakloon bell.
Media, files and links
Open the Info panel of a conversation to find everything that was shared in it: the media gallery and the tabs Media, Files and Links. Press Show more to go further back. When a message contains a link, the chat shows a preview of the first linked page under it.
Safety: report and block
- Report: open the menu of a message or a conversation, choose Report and pick the reason. Reports are reviewed by a person.
- Block: block a person and they can no longer write to you.
- Leave: you can leave a group or a channel and delete a conversation from your list.
We do not tolerate any sexual exploitation of children. Such content is removed, the account is closed and the case is reported to the competent authorities and may also be reported to NCMEC. Read the Child Safety Standards and the Community Guidelines. Write to child-safety@chakloon.com about anything that puts a child at risk: these messages are handled immediately.
Delete your messages or your account
- Delete a message of yours from its menu.
- Delete your account on the web or in the app: side menu, then Delete account. This deletes not only the chat but your whole Chakloon Passport account: your Passport account and your data on the social network and in the chat, and you lose access to all Chakloon services. Do this only if you want to leave all Chakloon services.
Messages you have already sent stay in the conversations of the people who received them. More about deleting the account and getting a copy of your data: Chakloon Passport.
